Kirsten as a Mentor Trainer

by Christina
(Cape Carteret, NC)

I started off my dog training career as an employee at a pet store training dogs. The knowledge of dog training that I gained there was a very basic level and I wanted more.

I enrolled at Animal Behavior College to learn more in-depth about how dogs learn, how to read their body language and pick up on the signals that they give us. The amount of knowledge I gained from this experience makes me feel like I was just pretending to be a dog trainer when employed by that store.

Animal Behavior College requires time with a hands on Dog Training Mentor to complete their program. They connected me with Kirsten for this. She has been an excellent Mentor Trainer. She encourages us to really pay attention and stretch our minds a little.

Instead of labeling a dog because of the behavior it is exhibiting, we were encouraged to break down what the dog is doing and what happened to make the dog do that particular behavior. She has been encouraging, patient, and brought a lot of new insight into training that you can't get through a book.

I am grateful for the time she has given me as a Mentor Trainer and I am happy to know that even though my required hands on hours are long over, I have her available to me as a Mentor whenever I call. Thank you Kirsten for your time and insight.
