Board and Train Your Dog at Gilligan's Barkery and Dog Spa

Gentle Canine and Gilligan's Dog Spa is now offering board and train services for your dog.

Gilligan's is an air-conditioned indoor boarding facility that also offers Doggy Daycare and Grooming Services.

The nice feature of boarding at Gilligan's is that your dog gets to be in Doggy Daycare during the day and not stuck in a kennel or run the entire time he is boarded. (You can request not to have the daycare service).

They are off Hwy 210 a quarter mile West of Hwy 172 in the Sneads Ferry Area.

About Board & Train:

Gentle Canine will train your dog for one hour each day while they are boarded at Gilligan's. Training may take place all at once or two half hour sessions each day. The Gentle Canine can make special arrangements to take your dog off site for training (usually the beach).

Is Board & Train right for you?

Boarding your dog for training may be perfect if you are planning to travel, have a change in your living situation (moving, family visiting, etc.) or if you work long hours and are short on time.

Board & Train is behavior specific.

Before I accept a board & train dog we do a consultation. This consultation takes place in your home. We discuss the problems and get straight with paperwork.

What can you expect from Board and Train? Board and Train excels at teaching manners such as not jumping on people, mouthing, rushing gates, leash walking. We can start recall work (coming when called) but a solid recall takes a lot more time and practice than 2 weeks. During the second week of training we go off site and practice in the real world.

The most important aspect of a Board and Train is that you practice diligently once you get your dog home. Your dog will go home with the tools to understanding what is expected. I will show you how to continue the training, but unless you continue to practice, you will not continue seeing results.

Will my dog learn to do what I want no matter what? When you see those dogs that drop on a single word, recall off chasing a deer, or prancing beautifully at their owners side, know that these dogs have been worked with diligently for months...if not years. Not only that, but genetics and imprinting can play a huge role in ability to learn. Even a Schutzhund dog requires 6 months of solid basic obedience work before moving on.

If your dog is too stressed while being in a kennel environment he may not be a candidate for board and train. It is for this reason that I do not accept aggression and fear issues for a board and train . Your dog is already stressed or fearful and putting him or her in a boarding facility would put them over the top making learning very difficult (if your dog has these issues, lets talk about in-home training options).

I design training plans on a per dog basis. Every dog is an individual and I treat training that way. This is why I have not published any cookie cutter training plans. There are just too many variables.

Vaccinations required for boarding by North Carolina law:

Your Veterinarian must Fax the Records to Gilligan's and you must schedule boarding with Gilligan's before we can set up board and train.

Cost:

Minimum Board and Train stay is 2 weeks. I will create a specific training package for each board and train dog. This package will include THREE in-home follow through lessons that will take place after the board and train.

Follow through training are your most important lessons so I can help you and your dog put it all together.

Boarding cost is separate and per Gilligan's fees. They are about $22/night.

We both offer this as a service to help people, but we are independent businesses from each other. You will pay Gilligan's for the boarding service and The Gentle Canine for training.
